eLearning tools

I was busy to find equation editors for IGOABROAD.COM. We have been looking for web applications of equation editors for a long time.

Two days ago, we got codecoge's editor and we also integrated with FCK. Codecog's math editors are not easy to integrate with FCK. Finaly, I found one expert to help us. We are going to save in our server today. i hope it will be working.

As i know, It looks like If you want to have an “html editor” like “FCKeditor” OR a “math formula editor” like “CodeCogs Equation Editor”. it may not easy to display HTML and LaTeX at the same time. That why a lot of people failed to install it. Our DT also failed.

I am really happy . we found a way to deal with it. it is our results to display HTML and Latex. If you want to install it, please E-mail al@igoabroad.com. we will try our best to help your guys out.

Corporate Learning Trends and Innovation 2008

I had three conferences in this mornting. it was good to hear a lot of information. The conference took place in http://learntrends.ning.com/ The system provided by Elluminate. However, it had some problems with sound and microphone. It is online conference. it won't spend a lot of money to attend it. You can attend any time you want. Dr karrer wll present at November 18, 2008 from 10am to 11am. please be there and join well done presentations.

However, today's conference had some problems with sounds and devices .

Online Scenarios . Today's conference is an example for Collaboration scenarios which is activities involved in the learning process. Online Scenarios can take place at problem solving and Distance learning.

Today's conference has involved two activities. if you have some questions in the session , you may ask right the way. it is call synchronously. you can chat and talk by online conference. i saw about 180 members in each conference. they chat and learn at the same time.

In future, you do not need to pay a lot of money to join conference. you just go to the conference at home. As i know, this online conference has been using for two years. it will use more and more in the future.

Motivations

i found some important elements by E-learning. It called E-motivations. You can design a game.
you can design a role playing. As you can see the video, you will understand it how the kid motivates by themselves. The interesting design will attract more learners motivations . What do you think this video?

Future education

I think we won't see textbooks in the school. You will find your textbooks on the website and you only need to pay less than you buy it. I know some pioneers have some kind of business. It is a good idea but can they make money right now? I think it is a good time to have this business but not for currently.

For example, Flat world knowledge. they are coming January 2009. i love this idea. They will succeed. no doubt. I may design the same service next year. I will be next company for new service.

Learning objects

Learning objects are new to me. i was trying to find some free resources to make research in the library. i did read a book which is Learning objects for instrction design and evaluation. The author is Pamelat T. Northrup. This book is very easy to read and understand it. I love it. It will help to deal with some design problems. Haughey and Muirhead(2005) suggest that "the value of a learning object is in the application to classroom settings and to online environments where teachers may or may not be present ." which means learning objects are instructional tools tha can be used in either setting. learning objects are used primarily to:

1. introduce new topics and skills
2. provide reinforcement to existing skills
3. Extend learning by providing new means for presenting curricular material
4. support new types of learning opportunities not available in a classroom environment.

There are some free resources which the teachers may select the learning object to support their classroom.

1. Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT) (http://www.merlot.org/)
2. Co-operative Learning Object Exchange(CLOE)(http://cloe.on.ca/
3. Apple Learning Interchange (http://ali.apple.com/ali/resources.shtml)
4. Educational Software Components of Tomorrow(ESCOT)(http://www.escot.org/audiences/classroom-user.html)
5. Campus Alberta Repository of Educational OBJECTS(CAREO)(http://careo.ucalgary.ca/cgi-bin/webobjects/careo.woa)
6. Wisconsin Online Resource Center(WISC-ONLINE)(http://www.wisc-online.com/)

Instructor-Led E-Learning?

As we know, E-learning is a training technique where the delivery method is electronic and content is delivered via the Internet.audio, and video technology. I use each of these methods to enhance the content learned in a classroom as well as to encourage the students to transfer the learnng into changes in their behavior back on the task.

1. Webinars : A webinar is an instructor-led online training session where the trainer uses software such as NetMeeting and Webex to share electronic information of all kinds (word processing documents, web pages, applications,or presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint).

2. Teleconferencing: it is using the telephone to deliver training. Teachers lead the session and often enhances the delivery by sending handouts and or PowerPoint. presentations in advance so that participants can follow along during the call.

3. videoconferencing: learners are being able to see on another on TV monitors. for example, WebEx.

4.Chat Rooms: it is online versions of discussion groups and can be used for any content that could benefit from students sharing experiences. it is a good training tools.

5. Bulletin Boards: We also can call discussion forums board. it is very popular . learners can leave their conversation in the from forum board. it is real time much like verbal conversations.

6. E-mail: Delivery can often be scheduled for a specific day,and it is really helpful in communicating with learners before classroom sessions take place and for sharing reminders and or new information afterward.

Formative vs. Summative

I had a design project for digial story telling two years ago.In the end of project, I need to set up formative assessment for my project. i use formative assessment approaches guide my students toward development of their own learning to learn skils. when i design assessment , i always misunderstood the distincion between the terms "evaluation"and "assessment." when you design formative assessment for your project, some things you should know about it

1.evaluation and assessment is synonyms, it refers to different levels of investigation

2. assessement is to measure of student learning . evaluation is focusing on macro or holistic level of the learning.

3. an evaluation is a designed and purposeful enquiry that is open to discussion.

What's it like to work for an online campus?

I just read about this papers. "if your have thought about moving to th eonline adjunct of your institution, or one of the big-name virtuals, here's what you will need to consider."

The very hot online university "The university of phoenix". they offers higher IT salaries than other institutions. it's amazing . Wow. This university supports about 330,000 students worldwide, the software is high-quality and cutting-edge."we invest heavily in our technology because we have to for our scale and for what we are maintaining from a reliability and secruity standpoint,"

Learning Management Systems to Learning Content Management Systems

What is Learning Management Systems (LMS)? Your school's Moodel is kind of LMS. School wants to control access to the courseware and track data such as the your ID,the level of usage, and the PDF files. The LMS also help teachers have more control over the contexts. According to Johnson & Hall (2007),The specific features and funcions of an LMS vary considerably from one system to another but generally they offer the following:

______________________________________________________________________________

1. Administrative functions: these include course setup, learner registration, course assignment and reporting of the learner's progress by tracking data such as scores on tests or quizzes, the time spent in courses, and the completion status of each course.

2. Learner interface: permitting learners to log in to the LMS using a personal ID with or without a password and receive access to the e-learning context via a personalized menu of their assigned courses. usually they can also monitor their own progress by viewing test scores, completion status on courses and topics, and so on.

3.Sequencing:LMSs are also responsible for sequencng learner access to lessons within courses ,such as allowing learners access lessons in any order or forcing them to access the lessons in a predetermined sequence.
__________________________________________________________________________________

Moodle is a good example to explain to you guys. Moodle can collect data about your usageand courses. As you can see, usage data has included the number learners registered for a course, how many learners are online etc....

By the way, The learning content management systems (LCMSs) is also very popular recelntly development. According to Johnson & Hall (2007)," LCMSs exploits the wider use of standard-compliant learning objects to add a further level of functionality to LMSs" The systems are designed to meet the following requirements:

1. Generate unique descriptions for each learning object.

2. Discover (Search for and locate )the required learning object.

3. Provide multiple hierarchies for storing and organizing learning objects.

4. Facilitate the assembly of complex course structures.
